Identifying and Controlling Invasive Plants

Invasive plants grow rapidly, spread aggressively, and displace our native plants. They can cause a decline in species diversity, inhibit regeneration success, slow natural succession, and degrade wildlife habitats, directly impacting food webs. This presentation will discuss why we should all be concerned about invasive plants, particularly if we are interested in songbirds. An integrated vegetation control approach will be examined. David Jackson is currently employed by Cutting Edge Tree Professionals as an Arborist representative. He is a certified arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture. Prior to working with Cutting Edge, Dave was a Forest Resources Educator with Penn State Extension for just over 20 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and completed a Master of Forest Resources at The Pennsylvania State University. Dave also worked in various positions with the U.S. Forest Service, Forest Industry, State Forestry, and Private Forestry Consulting.
