Weaving More Sustainable Fabrics into Fashion

February 25, 2025 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Like our watersheds, our textiles exist in fiber-sheds of farmers, textile mfrs., fashion industries, and consumers all tied into an economy that can be made more sustainable, local and circular, especially in Pennsylvania. PA Fibershed aims to restore Pennsylvania’s once booming textile economy, creating a thriving, interconnected network of individuals and businesses committed to ethical and sustainable fashion practices where the fiber, fashion and textile industries operate in harmony with nature, prioritizing circular economy principles and supporting local communities. Polyestered-out? Learn about the health and comfort benefits of wearing natural fibers and how they can grow our local economy and our sustainable footprint.

This presentation was recorded and can be viewed by clicking on the Play button below.

PA Fibershed co-founders Leslie Davidson and Rachel Higgins provide an in-depth look at Pennsylvania’s fiber and textile economy. They examine the current supply chain, the clothing and textile production process, the environmental impact of the industry, and what happens at the end of a garment’s life cycle.

Their presentation highlights the benefits of natural fibers and local production, their role in sustainability, and why they are a key component to creating a healthier planet. Learn what it will take to revitalize fiber and textile production in Pennsylvania and across the U.S., including the policies and initiatives that can support this effort and practical steps individuals can take to help reduce C02 emissions and rebuild a resilient, regenerative, and local textile economy.
