Production Electric Vehicle Event
August 26, 2014 @ 6:00 pm
“Production Electric Vehicle Event”
It used to be that if you wanted an electric car, you had to build it yourself. Now you can buy one from Ford and GM. Last year almost 1% of all cars sold in the US were electric. It’s a small percentage, but it adds up to over 226,000 electric cars on the road. Some electrics are pretty cool. Many are expensive, but there are also now much more affordable alternatives. Is your next car electric? MAREA wants to help you explore the opportunities with a Production Electric Vehicle Event at its August 26 monthly meeting.
More than a dozen production electric vehicles and a few advanced prototypes will be on display. The vehicle owners will also be available to answer your questions and share their experiences, both positive and negative, about going electric. Did they have to change their lifestyles? Is electric really much less expensive to operate? Have their electric cars been reliable? What about the environmental impact? What model is right for you? This is your opportunity to get the full scoop direct from the experiences of electric owners and users.
The Event will start at 6:00PM, a little earlier than our usual meetings, to give people time to investigate the vehicles outside. At 7:00PM, we will move indoors for the owners to share their experiences with the overall group. Come with your questions and experience an alternative vehicle show that sure to be super-charged!
Do you have an electric vehicle you would like to show others? We are particularly interested if you can bring your BMW i3 electric, Chevrolet Spark EV, Cadillac ELR, Fiat 500e, Ford Focus Electric, Ford C-Max Energi, Ford Fusion Energi, Hyundai Tucson fuel cell, Mercedes B-class electric, Smart Electric, Toyota Prius Plug-In or Toyota RAV4 EV vehicle, but we also welcome your Chevrolet Volt, Mini-E, Mitsubishi i, Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S or Tesla Roadster, and converted electric and hybrid-electric vehicles. So we can best accommodate you, please email [masked] if you plan to bring your EV.
Hope you can join us! After the meeting, please plan to stick around and chat with friends old and new. And we’re always interested in your ideas for MAREA speakers, activities and services. Light snacks will be served. Hope to see you there!
For questions, contact Vera Cole, [masked] or [masked].
Free DVD with MAREA membership
While supplies last, all new and renewing MAREA members will receive a free copy of “Saving Sunshine, Keeping the Lights on with Batteries and Solar Power,” the 30-minute DVD produced by MAREA this year with funding from the Berks Community Foundation and distributed by Bullfrog Films. It’s terrific film, offering an interesting and easily understood explanation of the electricity grid and distribution generation, especially the role of batteries with solar. MAREA is a 501(c)3 non-profit. Donations and memberships are how we keep the lights on. You can join at the meeting or anytime online. Thanks for your help.
