“The Smart Grid” — Local company plays major role in demo and research!
May 28, 2013 @ 7:00 pm
Sure you’ve heard of Deka batteries — made in the USA, right here in Berks County! But, did you know the company, East Penn Manufacturing was awarded a $2.2 million grant by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Smart Grid Storage Demonstration Program to build a huge smart grid energy storage demonstration system…and that it is up and running? A bank of the company’s Deka UltraBatteries is currently providing 3 MW of backup storage for the Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland (PJM) Interconnection, the largest regional transmission operator in the USA.
On Tuesday, May 28, Dan Seidel, Senior Technical Support Engineer, will explain how services provided by the East Penn energy storage system to PJM and Met-Ed are successfully demonstrating key features necessary to effective Smart Grid deployment. Fascinating!
We hope you can join us to learn about the important role this local manufacturer is playing in the evolution and modernization of our nation’s grid infrastructure. After the meeting, plan to stick around and chat with friends old and new. We’re also interested in your ideas for MAREA speakers, activities and services. Light snacks will be served.
