UltraBattery Head-to-Head in Partial State of Charge
A new class of lead-acid battery technology
John Buchanan, Director of North American Business Development & Services for Ecoult, a subsidiary of East Penn Manufacturing
Few things are more important to expanding our use of renewable energy than developments in electricity storage, for those times when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow, and when the grid needs a helping hand. At MAREA’s May meeting, we’ll have battery development news, from right here in Pennsylvania.
The new UltraBattery from Ecoult, a subsidiary of East Penn Manufacturing, combines the fast charging and longevity of ultracapacitor technology with the storage potential of a lead-acid battery, in one device. This combination allows efficient operation in a partial state of charge. Compared to conventional lead-acid batteries, this combined technology is more efficient, lasts longer, has a lower lifetime cost, accepts charge faster and needs fewer refresh cycles. It has a wide range of residential and commercial renewable energy applications, including storage, grid services and microgrids. And, the UltraBattery is 100% recyclable with components manufactured in Berks County, PA.
At MAREA’s May 29 meeting, John Buchanan, Director of North American Business Development & Services will describe the UltraBattery and how it is being utilized in applications today, including numerous case studies and performance-related information for current installations. He’ll share with us his insights about where and how energy storage is being employed today throughout North America and around the world, and what these applications may look like going forward.
We look forward to John’s presentation on this exciting new technology and hope you can join us! All are invited. Our meetings are free and open to the public. The meeting is Tuesday, May 29, at 7:00 at TEKPark (9999 Hamilton Boulevard, Breinigsville, PA 18031, between Kutztown and Allentown). After the meeting, please plan to stick around and chat with friends old and new. Light snacks will be served. Hope to see you there!
John Buchanan is responsible for Business Development in North America along with Service Delivery for globally deployed energy storage assets based exclusively on the UltraBattery. He is a graduate of the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Nuclear Engineering.
Ecoult is the global energy storage arm of the world’s largest single-site lead battery manufacturing facility, East Penn Manufacturing in Lyons Station, Berks Couty, PA. Ecoult provides software, hardware, systems integration and engineering to monitor and control the energy storage systems and maximize their capabilities. East Penn manufactures the Deka UltraBattery cells inside every system.
